I researched what sort of legislation community radio stations have to go through to be established as a licensed radio station. just a couple of examples being:

The Communications Act 2003The Communications Act 2003 introduced a vastly improved framework for Community Media development in the United Kingdom and the Community Media Association played an important role in lobbying for this new framework. The Act received Royal Assent on 17 July 2003.The sections in the Act that make specific provision for Community Media are as follows:

  • Section 262This section says that the Secretary of State may by order modify the Communications Act 2003 and the Broadcasting Acts of 1990 and 1996 to make special provision for Community Radio services.
  • Section 359This section says that Ofcom may make such grants as they consider appropriate to Community Radio licensees.
I sent off a questionaire to a prestenter of New Style radio to ask about the community and how the radio station reflects the community. Also in the questionaire I asked how the radio station has further developed to when it was first set up. Another question to just summarise the questionaire is what she thought of the station as a whole and how it benefits the community.

Researched more into community radio through the internet and found out the why community radios are set up and what they get of it.

However the questionaire i sent the radio presenter hasn't got back to me so i'm going to be sending a questionaire to another member of the radio station.

http://www.commedia.org.uk/

I found out the history of Community Radio and when it was first established, which was in the 1970's. The website also shows what communtiy radio has to go through with the government and how it is funded. This was useful because it gave me a foundation to start from and how to go by answering my question. this has led to going more specifically into New Style radio and how the community influences the radio station. the questionaire in which i've sent to New Style

  • When New style was originally set up what was the format for the Show?
    what has changed since then?
  • New Style radio has recently been set up, how has it grown in the sense how many listeners have New Style got now than before?
  • When New style was set up did you think it was going to be a successful community radio?
Is New Style going to be around for a long time? And if it is what are its future plans?
  • What is your opinion on Community radio?

this is primary research and it let me look into New Style first hand and would help me answer my question. I also went onto the New Style radio website which was just general info on the radio station so to a certain extent it was hepful.

I've also gone to the library to research on the background of radio and how it originated. however they weren't useful because they gave me the whole history of how radio had started in the early 18th century.
